I’ve got a facebook account. But I don’t get it. I just don’t. Am I thick or has someone created a whole new paradigm for human/computer interfaces that no one told me about? (OK I know it’s about human/human communication/prattle but I can’t get past the chaos of facebook). Is it specifically designed to confuse the over 35s? Is it revenge for the mosquito device teenager repellent? What?

I get notifications about stuff other people have done to other people. I get regular emails from Owen asking me to play scabulous – I had to rely on his tech support to navigate around the screen looking for the damned application because the invite didn’t contain a link to the app.

Now Owen is cajoling me into joining a group about the Ball Surname in Ireland. Fine – after three days of web 2.0 compliant insults I relent and decide to join.

Where’s the join button? Where do I point the mouse thing [picks up mouse and waves it at the screen] to make me join the group. There is no link in the invite. There is no flashing spinning button that says “join this group be-atch”

How come I feel like such a fscking idiot every time I log on there? I’ve been blogging since early 2003, I’m hip, I’m cool, why don’t I get it?

Answers via postcard please.

I was at the house at 0700 this morning pulling back underlay and pulling up floorboards. Neil the joiner arrived at about 0745 and got stuck into the skirting in the living room. If it looks alright I’ll put down some plywood this evening so that the room is at least clean for the furniture arriving on Tuesday. The fireplace will not be arriving until December so we do need to clean this room up as much as possible just in case Christmas comes and goes with no firepalce.

The plumber – a new one this time – arrived at 0900 and is busy hanging radiators at the moment and will hopefully be finished by the time the carpet guys get back after lunch. Once that’s done and he can start the heating again we should be sorted.

Then the botched kitchen counter is coming back on Thursday to be fitted – hopefully correctly this time. Really looking forward to that.

The house is still full of boxes and boxes of clothes and miscellaneous crap but we will be sorting that out when we are back in.

Mum and Dad arrived yesterday so it’s great that the baby seems to be coming while they are here. I’d hate to send a second set of parents home with no baby!

Sophie had been getting very excited about it but decided that it wasn’t coming now and Jean was just joking. It’s going to be very interesting to see how she reacts over the first few days.

I’ve come into work for a few hours today to leave things in order for next week which I will take off. I was also feeling a bit of a spare tool at home going “are you OK” every few minutes. Better to stay cool about it until we are ready to get in the car and head off to the hospital.

I’ll try to put a few pics up this afternoon.

Getting close to the birth date now. Baby number two is due on Wednesday 25th April so it a statistical certainty that I can go anywhere and do anything that day without fear of missing the big event. I even have an invitation to a meeting and an overnight in Paris – on 25th April – but do you think I’m going to chance it? Nope.

Sophie is getting very excited now about the new baby. She started singing to the bump last night “Come out, come out wherever you are. Come out, come out to play”. I know she isn’t really expecting to play football with it day one but I think she’ll be surprised by the lack of major interaction for several months. We shall have to keep her occupied with other things such as the French classes she started yesterday, and swimming classes she’s been doing for a few weeks. Will have to think up a couple of ideas for a present for her when the baby comes.

I’m busying myself at the moment redecorating our bedroom which I started stripping a few weeks ago and which is now getting some lining paper. It’s really difficult sequencing things because an electrician is coming in a few weeks to rip up my walls again so I have to stop the lining paper one roll from the bottom (yes I am doing it the right but difficult way – horizontally – just so I can do this). Going to look good, plus we got new blinds delivered during the week so we can finally take down the net curtains!

Reminds me of Ronan videoing Fin’s wedding on Angela’s camcorder – we had to turn a portable telly on it’s side to watch it. Another archive video from I think August 2005. Sophie headbanging to Greenday on the radio. I kept turning it down and she kept turning it right back up again. Finally she bangs her head on the steering wheel and gets really annoyed. Not a huge Greenday fan myself (the whole neo-punk thing seems a little forced after 1979 although I like their politics), but Sophie has an eclectic taste shall we say!
